First match, first win for Bessacarr Barnsley A

The new look Bessacarr Barnsley A team started the season with a tough Manvers A clash. Manvers regularly finish the season in the second or third spot.

The Bessecarr pairing were Craig Harrop and Mark Shipway as first pair, Andy Wassell (making his Bessacarr debut) and Gus Gusterson second pair, and a third pair of Brandon Stapley and Will Martin.

The first three sets ended with a loss for the first couple and wins for the second and third pairs.

The next set of three saw the first couple bagging a win, the third couple loosing in two. While this was going on, a battle was being fought out between Andy W and Bessacarrs head banded viking, Mr Gusterson, and Manvers tricky third couple of Hirst and Kemp. The first end went the way of the Bessacarr lads 22-20. The second end to Manvers 15-21. That left a third end decider, and after toil, sweat and effort, the Bessacarr pair triumphed with a 23-21 win. 4-2 to the Bessacarr.

The final set of three saw the Will and Brandon win a tight one to 3 ends, Gusterson and Andy W loose to Kril and Lucassi. Wanting to make things interesting, Craig and Mark lost their first end 23-25 to Hirst and Kemp. The second end was neck and neck for most of the game, with Manvers having chances to win. But the Bessies ground out a 25-23 win to make it one end a piece. The last end went to the home pair 21-15 to give Bessacarr a well earned 6-3 win.

Great match to be in and a great match to watch. Looking forward to the rest of the season.
