Thursday 5th November 2026 – Home match, Bessacarr Barnsley A v Staincross A.
The Barnsley A squad have been hit by a ‘man flu’ epidemic. First Will had to pull out followed by Andy. From the subs bench stepped up Webby and Josh S.
Just a few hours before the match was due to start, Brandon was hit with the nasty ‘man flu’, giving him a hacking cough. But he’s made of tough stuff (and he works for a well known chemist), so he bit the flu capsule and battled on to the match.
Staincross also had injury woes with two stand ins and a half fit Paul Cook.
Bessacarr Barnsley A team was made up of, first couple Webby and Josh S, second couple Mark and Gus, third couple Brandon and Raj.
The match got off to a 2-1 lead for Staincross. In the game against Gus and Mark, Paul Cook’s body gave up on him and he had to retire from the match. That gifted Bessacarr 2 rubbers and a 3-2 lead.
The second set of rubbers were both won by Staincross, 3-4 to Staincross.
With just two rubbers left to play, Bessacarr needed to win both. Gus and Mark missed out against Staincross’s first pair but Webby and Josh played a tight three ender that finished with a win. The match finished with a Staincross 5-4 win.
Let’s hope that the ‘man flu’ clubdemic fizzles out or perhaps we could get a sponsorship from Lemsip. Stay well team!
