Bessacarr vs Staveley B – 7th January 2026
After their emphatic win over Phoenix, Bessacarr’s Sheffield team prepared to continue their quest for division two dominance, facing off against Staveley for their first match of 2026.
Staveley have had a strong start to the season, winning four out of five of their matches so far, so this was set to be a nail-biter. Unfortunately however, Staveley could only manage to field two pairs, and were said to be missing three of their main players.
Bessacarr set off on a cold winters day with the following team:
Matt and Cam (who had Toby carvery and spaghetti Bolognese, respectively, as their pre match meals) (won both in straight sets)
Craig (fresh from representing Yorkshire over the weekend) and Josh (N) (debuting for Doncaster Bessacarr Badminton Club’s Sheffield League A Team) (won both in straight sets)
Kris (who put his back injury on hold for this match, stretching his back by hanging off a basketball hoop) and Ste (who came straight from a 12 hour shift) (won both in straight sets)
Overall result: 9-0 win.
Strong performance from the team today, well played all, some great badminton and another convincing win. Hopefully we can play all three games for the return fixture. Despite the quick finish to the match, the night ended with some fun doubles games with both teams mixed together (including Craig’s old doubles partner!). Badminton was the real winner today.
