Barnsley Badminton League Division 1
Staincross A vs. Bessacarr A
21st October 2025
5-4 win for Bessacarr A
Bessacarr A made the Tuesday evening trip to Honeywell Sports Centre to face reigning Barnsley champions Staincross A, in what proved to be a fiercely competitive Division 1 clash. As expected, the match was tightly contested from start to finish, with Bessacarr edging out a narrow 5–4 victory.
Bessacarr started strong, racing to a 2–0 lead before Staincross responded to level the score at 2–2. As the match progressed, both teams traded wins, and the games became increasingly tense with two tight ends going to setting, with Bessacarr narrowly losing 26–24 and another 22–20.
With the score poised at 3–3, the final three rubbers took to the court with everything still to play for. Game 7 was a gritty three-set battle. With the score at 19-19 in the second set both pairs played nervy badminton, scattering the rallies with errors. Bessacarr eventually lost the set 26–24 to set up a deciding third end. Webby and Craig regrouped and took an early 3-point lead, and held firm to close out the third set 21–14.
Staincross claimed Game 8 to level the match at 4–4, setting up a dramatic final rubber between Matt & Cam and Fisher & Doughty. The Staincross pair took the first set 21–17, capitalising on errors from the Bessacarr pair. A tactical shift and renewed focus saw Matt & Cam dominate the second set 21–14. Riding that momentum, they repeated the scoreline in the third, sealing the match and the bonus points for Bessacarr.
It was a thrilling contest full of high-quality rallies and pressure moments. With two wins from two against last season’s top two teams, Bessacarr A are off to a flying start—setting the tone for what could be a standout season. Well played, team!
